Domaine Daniel Dampt Wine: 2002 Chablis

Producer: Domaine Daniel Dampt (Milly)

Comment: Regional-level Chablis is a notorious underperformer, often vastly over-cropped and delivering little but a vapid white wine with some tangy finishing acidity and precious little Chablis character. This by contrast is intense, pure and elegant with unmistakable Chablis character and a fine steeliness to the medium weight, precise and sappy flavors. First-rate quality for this level and an excellent choice for a house white, especially at this price; it's been a long time since I've tasted anything like this level of quality in the $10+ range. 88/2004-9 (Note: there are two labels but the wine is identical).

Importers: In the U.S., the Daniel Dampt label is imported by Vinalia Imports, Camarillo, Calif, Exceptional Wines (http://www.exceptionalwines.com) and T. Edwards, New York, NY; the Jean Defaix label is imported by Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY. For the UK - Ballantynes of Cowbridge; Georges Barbier, London and The Vine Trail.

Suggested Price: $15 (you can expect to pay around $12 to $13)

Important Note: Burghound.com has no financial relationship of any kind with Domaine Dampt or any of the importers listed herein.

Each week we feature a different Burgundy. While there will be a mix of vintages, most wines featured will be those that can normally be found at a variety of fine wine retailers. Each wine will be described and rated with a suggested window of peak drinkability indicated after the numerical score. Prices shown are estimated retail in the U.S., but prices do of course vary widely depending on the retailer.
