Burghound.com® - The Burgundy of the Week

Saumaize Wine: 1999 Saint-Véran "Les Vieilles Vignes"

Producer: Domaine Saumaize-Michelin (Vergisson)

Comment: Exquisite aromatics of white flowers, notes of honey and rosemary plus rich, full, detailed flavors and surprisingly good length. St. Véran can often be quite ordinary but this is distinctive with an excellent fruit/acid balance that nicely offsets the fat on the finish. Very impressive quality and this 99 offers real breed plus at about $15, it offers outstanding value. 88/2002-6

U.S. Importer: Atherton Wine Imports - San Jose, CA

Suggested Price: $14.95

Important Note: Burghound.com has no financial relationship of any kind with Domaine Saumaize-Michelin or with Atherton Wine Imports.

Each week we feature a different Burgundy. While there will be a mix of vintages, most wines featured will be those that can normally be found at a variety of fine wine retailers. Each wine will be described and rated with a suggested window of peak drinkability indicated after the numerical score. Prices shown are estimated retail in the U.S., but prices do of course vary widely depending on the retailer.
