Burghound.com® - The Burgundy of the Week
Producer: Domaine du Clos Salomon (Givry) Comment: (monopole meaning that Domaine du Clos Salomon is the only owner of this vineyard). An earthy, somewhat rustic but pure nose of red pinot fruit introduces rich, full-bodied, nicely intense, precise and sappy flavors of moderate complexity and fine length with nary a trace of oak in evidence. The '01 vintage was no picnic in the Côte Chalonnaise yet there is plenty of density as well as pretty, round and completely clean flavors plus exceptionally good balance on the medium length backend. I very much like this and highly recommend it for value as well as its overall harmony of expression. There is just a bit of gas present (which permits growers to use less sulfur) and I would suggest decanting this for half an hour first. 88/2006-12 U.S. Importer: A Becky Wasserman Selection, Le Serbet, Beaune, France (for additional information, email: sbw@wanadoo.fr) Suggested Price: $22 (you can expect to pay $18 to $25) Important Note: Burghound.com has no financial relationship of any kind with Domaine du Clos Salomon or with Le Serbert.
