Domaine Anne Gros Wine: 1998 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

Producer: Domaine Anne Gros (Vosne-Romanée)

Comment: (from a subclimat within the Clos de Vougeot known as Le Grand Maupertui). Soaring nose of blackberry fruit and intense, austere earthy pinot flavors with impressive sève (sap extract) and stunning complexity. The length here is phenomenal. If there is a niggle, it's that the toasty oak is quite prominent but there is plenty of material that should be able to absorb it over time. A classy effort that is exquisitely well balanced and should drink well young but improve over the next decade. 90/2006-12

U.S. Importer: North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; Michael Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY; Arborway Imports, Lexington, MA, The Stacole Company, Boca Raton, FL and Vintner Select, Cincinnati, OH.

Suggested Price: $110 (you can expect to pay $80 to $100)

Important Note: Burghound.com has no financial relationship of any kind with Domaine Anne Gros, or with any of the importers or retailers selling this wine.

Each week we feature a different Burgundy. While there will be a mix of vintages, most wines featured will be those that can normally be found at a variety of fine wine retailers. Each wine will be described and rated with a suggested window of peak drinkability indicated after the numerical score. Prices shown are estimated retail in the U.S., but prices do of course vary widely depending on the retailer.
