La Truffière Wine: 1999 Puligny-Montrachet "La Truffière" 1er Cru

Producer: Bernard Morey et Fils (Chassagne-Montrachet)

Comment: (1994 was the first year for this wine and comes from a mix of 20 and 50 year old vines). Despite its upslope location, which often causes wines from La Truffière to be fine and restrained in style, the 99 Truffière delivers a lovely blend of finesse and more power than usual. Beautifully detailed in every respect offering fine fruit with melon rind notes which frame rich, powerful, sappy flavors underpinned by pronounced minerality and a penetrating wet stones character. A very impressive, very classy effort with exceptional length and the best concentration of any of the 99 Bernard Morey Domaine wines. Grand cru quality here and even better than the very fine 1998. 92/2007

U.S. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, Alabama and Louis/Dressner Selections, New York, NY

Suggested Price: $75 (though I have seen this discounted to the low $50 range)

Important Note: Burghound.com has no financial relationship of any kind with Domaine Bernard Morey et Fils, Vineyard Brands, Louis/Dressner Selections or with any retailer selling this wine.

Each week we feature a different Burgundy. While there will be a mix of vintages, most wines featured can normally be found at a variety of fine wine retailers. Each wine is described and rated with a suggested window of peak drinkability indicated after the numerical score. Prices shown are estimated retail in the U.S., but prices do of course vary widely depending on the retailer.
